Princes and paupers were the big stories of the 1970/71 F.A. Cup, another richly entertaining instalment in the greatest show on earth.
Fourth Division Colchester United created one of the great shocks in the competition's 99 year existence, playing host to the mighty Leeds United in the fifth round and sending Don Revie's side off home to Yorkshire with a bloody nose after a 3-2 win.
Leeds had gone to Layer Road looking well placed to win a League and Cup double but that defeat opened the door for Arsenal to steal past them. They clinched the First Division title on the Monday before the Cup Final and then secured a place in history at Wembley Stadium with a Charlie George thunderbolt followed by his iconic celebration that kids up anddown the land were trying out in the garden by nightfall.
This book featuring extensive interviews with Bob Wilson on Arsenal's triumphal path and with Ray Crawford on just how Colchester derailed Leeds, from soup to nuts, this is the magic of the F.A. Cup, 1970/71 style. Published in 2020.
