January 1978, Luton Town were at a critical point of transition in their history and fresh out of Harry Haslam's stewardship after he moved to Sheffield United. This ushered in the appointment of the club's young coach, 34-year-old David Pleat, as first team Manager.

The eight years that followed David Pleat's appointment are viewed as a golden period in the club's history. Not only amongst fans of the Kenilworth Road club as the team also won many admirers around the footballing world. The Luton Town sides from this period are revered by many fans of others clubs all around the country still to this day.

However, this is not a David Pleat book. This is a book about the players that David assembled around him. This is their story documented from first hand interviews with players and staff from this period covering David Pleat's first and most successful time in charge who have so freely and generously given their time. It's the story of what it was like for them both inside and outside the dressing room.

This is not only the memories from the household names of Ricky Hill, Paul Walsh, Brian Stein and Mick Harford etc but also the memories of youth, reserve and loan players who passed through the corridors of Kenilworth Road. Some without ever making a first team appearance. Every one of them has a story to tell and each is as valid as the next in painting the picture of this provincial football club based within the foothills of Bedfordshire who climbed to great heights and punched above its weight to enthrall a generation of football supporters across the football world.
