Ken Bates had been Chelsea FC's controversial chairman for more than a decade by the time the Premier League was formed and, during that time, little had changed at the club as Bates lacked the funds to renovate the stadium or improve the team. This changed when financier Matthew Harding joined the board and provided loans for both players and a new stand, but the relationship between Bates and Harding deteriorated and quickly turned into outright warfare. Drawing on interviews with Bates, this book tells the story of the subsequent battle for the control of the club before the untimely death of Harding in October 1995. Published in 2023.
