Displaced when fighting first began in the Donbas region in 2014 and then again when Russia mounted a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, this book honours a club who chose to play on. The author follows Shakhtar's meteoric rise from domestic team to European contenders and tells of their origins story after Ukrainian independence, their evolution and reinvention and how the club has had to find itself again following an exodus of star players forced by the ongoing war.
