Against All Odds – Walter Tull – The Black Lieutenant

The fascinating biography of Walter Tull, one of the first black players in English football, appearing for Clapton Orient, Tottenham Hotspur and Northampton Town during the early 20th Century. Upon the outbreak of war Tull enlisted in the 'Football Battalion', subsequently earning a commission to 2nd Lieutenant and becoming the first black officer to lead white troops into battle. Tull was killed in action in March 1918. Published in 2018.
