The autobiography of Geoff Merrick, a central defender who played for Bristol City for most of his career, becoming captain of the club at the age of just 19, leading them into the top flight and making over 350 appearances in a 15 year spell. Despite his long service to the club, Merrick was one of 8 players who were asked to tear up their contracts in 1982 to save the club from bankruptcy and today their sacrifice is commemorated by a plaque outside of Ashton Gate.
