Ernie Hunt was one of football's great extroverts. Playing right through from the late 1950s to the mid-1970s, he began his professional career at Swindon Town, where he was one of a cluster of youngsters to put the club on the map. He later played a part in Wolves' promotion to the First Division, and will forever be associated with the audacious 'donkey' free-kick goal he scored for Coventry City, witnessed by millions on Match of the Day.
Ernie Hunt had a happy goalscoring knack and was a specialist in the spectacular. Cheeky in manner, Ernie endeared himself to supporters, entertaining them throughout his career. Since retirement his sense of humour has remained undimmed through periods of extraordinary hardship and deprivation.
Told in part through his own words, and also through the tributes of fellow players, this is the story of a remarkable character who captures the essence and spirit of life and football from this era. Published in 2004.
